stealerships rings are PRICEY! anywhere else I camn get them
I am having my head surfaced for my ZC right now and was at the acura dealership getting a new headgasket for it and figured id hone the cylinder walls and replace the rings while I am at it, I am going to sell it anyways but it would be torn down a bit already so why not get it running tip top to sell. I tell the guy what I want (I have recently bought a B20 headgasket for 50 bucks so i was figuring the same price for the ZC one) he comes back with 231.00, so I am thinking woah the rings are STEEP, I ask how much are the rings and he says 39.95 and I am thinking holy shit the headgasket for this is 190 bucks!, then he adds "per set" so I aske if per set means per cylinder and he says yes, so I am relieved that the head gasket was around the 50 dolla mark and said no thanks for the rings. I mean you can get a set of forged pistons/rings/pins/locks for 500, and just stock rings are 160 bucks? I mean, thinking about the machinework that goes into making the forged pistons, cost of the material, and the pins and everything for 500, how are rings so expensive, anyone know of another company selling rings for hondas? I mean I got my bugs rings for like 15 bucks, now I know that a bug and a honfdas wuite different but both are 1.6 4's, both have oil control rings and 2 compression rings. how are hondas so much more, I am figuring it is because of it is being dealer direct. I got 4 days before my head gasket gets in so I have time to keep looking for rings beforee it is too late. so anyone have any sources???
thanks and if I cant find rings, would there be any benefit in honing the cylinders and just replacing pistons with same rings, no huh?
