Distributor Runs Fine Cold but not when Warm

Here is my problem. I have a 98 honda civic ex with a D16Y8 1.6L SOHC VTEC motor. I did a swap for the same motor and tranny for fewer miles to build performance on. I put a new stage 2 crane cam and underdrive pulleys on. I got the car running and drove it for about 15 minutes and it ran beautifull. Then the next day I went to drive it somewhere and about half way there the car started jerking and the motor started jumping and the tach started jumping. I took it to a garage and their saying that is has something to do with the distributor. When the car is cold it starts fine and runs great till the ignitor in the distributor heats up then it starts running bad because their saying the ingnitor shuts down and is intermitent. They tried a new distributor and it does the same thing. No check engine light. Nothing so it has to be electrical. I have replaced the ecm with a brand new stock one and replaced the ignition coil with a brand new stock one. The garage has had the car for a week now and they can't figure out why it is shutting down. If this has happened to anyone or if anyone has any ideas please let me know. its your main relay, once these go, the car has a very hard time starting under warm-hot conditions, however if its cold they usually will fire up.

i suggest replacing that first, before you go any further.

Thanks for the info man, I figured it out. I had a bad ground, but thank you for the info. You learn a lot on these forum pages.

you definatly can learn a whole lot on these boards, many members are very smart, so pay attention well. while others are just tarts who have nothing better to do than to start problems.
