Lightbulb redline

does anyone know the redline limit for a focus zx3 wit the 145 hp

and wut happens when u bring it into redline and how bad is it for a car

dont redline your car unless its fully broken in with a full tank of gas.. redlining your engine is not a smart thing to do alot, hell its not safe to do

Sure its safe...thats why its there to protect the engine for over revving. I bounce the limiter all the time while autoXing...of course you can't drive long in 1st at 35-40mph!!!

I would keep it off the rev limiter. Your simply making less power. Hitting the rev limiter cuts fuel and retards the motor. Most engines make peak power well before the limiter kicks in, so shift before that. Hitting the rev limiter only makes you slower. In general , higher revs place more stress on a motors rods than running boost at lower revs.

My motor is slightly built with the limiter set at 7200. And when I hit a road racing track, I shift around 6500 rpm. That'll keep me in the power band and is plenty enough to keep the motor spinning.

find a dyno report of a focus similar to yours, or get one done to yours. when i first got my focus, i found a dyno test to take a look at so i could find where my engine is prime on the rev(max horsepower/torque)...i used this, so that when i shifted i tried to keep the rev in that rpm range maximizing my power.regaurdless of it not being my car that was dyno'ed, it really helped give me a basic idea of how the 2.0 engine pushed its power.

otherwise the guy that posted around 6500 rpms should suffice too if you dont want to get to exact.

the best way to find prime shift spots is just taking it on a nice long road, and running it back and fourth with a friend holding a stopwatch or one of those gmax things that measure 1/4 mile, and 0-60 times.

never redline.

Like fordesigner said, it's not good to redline a stock engine unless you have an engine built up for it.
