Question Help!! what the hell do I have 2-series or 3-series!?!?!?

alright i have a 98 trans am and i want to put in a 3.73 gear. however, i do not know if i have a 2-series or 3-series carrier. i contacted SLP and they said if i have a 2-series i can still get a 3.73 gear but a 3-series carrier would be better. how do i find out which series carrier i have? and if i have a 2-series carrier would it be worth it to get the 3-series knowing that i will be doing more future upgrades?

Ok...well if you have a manual you have 3.42 gearing. If you have an auto, it could be either 2.73 or 3.23. You have to look for the correct rpo code in your glove box.

2.73's are GU2 - 2 series

and 3.23's are GU5 - 3 series

thank you...and does that mean that some people just randomly get screwd over with a 2 series instead of a 3 series?

Maybe someone removed it but on the inside of the door there should be a mini build sheet of your car with production codes, But if its missing you can also tell by how fast you go and how many rpm's your car is doing.

well i guess it is removed then...well my rpms stay pretty low when i cruise so i pobably have 2 series :/ when im goin like 60 they prolly are around 2000. However is there any other way to know for sure, if i have a 10 bolt rear end does that mean anything?

Is it a Auto or Manual and you should be testing the RPM's in 3rd not overdrive
