Inputting Radio Code

Trying to help a friend whose radio was unplugged and now wants the code put in - it is an 8 digit code with letters, but the radio only allows a 4 digit code - anyone done this before? Any ideas appreciated - it's a 93' Elantra

Thanks

Radio Code Input process

The first question to ask yourself is this a Hyundai radio? The Hyundai veh from 95 and older came equipped with the radio code feature. Some 96's also came equipped with this feature. The code that is needed is only 4 digits long. Now for this veh I believe that the serial number for the radio is located in the coin box on the left hand side of the steering column. If there is no door for the coin box it should be on the roof of the coin box. If you call 1-800-633-5151 with the serial number for the radio the Hyundai Consumer affairs department will be able to run that thru the system and give you the radio code for that radio. The serial number is also listed on the radio itself so if no sticker is available this is also another option. If the radio cannot be pulled and the serial number is not available there is a manual decode process which the Consumer Affairs department can guide you thru. If you have pulled your battery and now the radio is blank there is something else wrong with the radio. The only time that the radio will ask for this number is if the screen says code. I hope this helps!
