Anyone have comments on D16A9 ?
I'm from Belgium and my block is a D16A9... DOHC non-VTEC. The car is a 1989 Civic, known HERE in Belgium as a 1.6i16v. I don't see many threads on the D16A9 so I was wondering what the equivalent is with you guys, as I'm considering the proverbial B16 swap... Thanks for your comments !

D16A8 and D16A9 are both DOHC ZC engines. Thats what we call them anyways. A lot of people here have them (me being one). Not bad little engines.

they are great engines, its the EDM version of the "ZC" engine, its approx 133 BHP without a cat i think
I had a 1.6i-16 civic , went like hell and sounded sweet with an intake on , brilliant engines IMO, if you are looking for parts etc for your engine do a search for ZC they are almost identical engines, as in VERY close matching

Re: Anyone have comments on D16A9 ?
I've already dropped in a KN filter and removed (most) of the resonator... I was hoping to swap a B16a or b in, but it looks like too much of a hassle/risk... I think I'll try and keep the D16A9 and have it reconditionned. Does someone know how much it costs, or if it's ill-advised ? Thanks for your help, guys. And I agree. D16A9 DOES sound sweet and DOES get the job done...

well mate if your going to recon the engine, you may as well do it with performance parts, and there are turbo kits available if you want to increase performance, cams, valves, turbo kits, manifold, if your guna keep the engine and recon it , i would seriously suggest changing everything with performance parts

How many miles, is it buring oil...?
Most "D" series OEM Honda engines, can go up to 200 hp rather safely, even more using a stanalone in some cases. Main thing is keeping a sharp eye out for detonation, so it does not happen.... The ZC has sorta become a tuner's engine, due to having to go to a dyno, in order to get the most hp out of them. Also, going with some adjustable cam gears, will get some more hp. However, that again calls for a trip to a dyno to get them set-up properly. "Butt" dynos are really not sensative enough, once your past a point... As far as cams go, what kind of driving do you do...? If it's everyday stop and go traffic. Then you will want to look at cams that have good low end. Or vice versa if you do a lot highway driving. No point in getting a high rpm cam, when traffic won't let you use it....

Mileage is 140K, she doesn't burn oil (nothing worth mentionning anyway) The whole drivetrain has 31K on it
and the last dyno/tests gave 137hp at the wheels, compression 9:5 So I'm not worried... but I'm anticipating - B16A2's are so common and cheap here it'd be a shame not to try the swap

well, if you want to go b-series, the only extra parts(besides the engine) would be mounts, shift linkage, axles, and the hub/knuckles(or whatever they are called) plus a v-tec controller.
