WANTED: Your opinions
For my next car I am strongly considering a B-Body (1990-1996 Chevy Caprice/Buick Roadmaster). I would love an ImpalaSS but they are still out of our price range.
My husband thought maybe we could pick up a 9C1 (Caprice that is an ex-cop car) cheap then save up for a Roadmaster in nice condition. Then if I get the RM, he uses the 9C1 as a daily driver. His Roadmaster will be a weekend/show car when its done. I have really grown to love the B-bodies. The only problem is 2 of them won't fit in the garage unless we extend it by 4-6 feet, but that's one of our future plans for the house anyway, depending on how money pans out over the next few months. The other problem is it won't fit in my covered parking spot at work....which I worked 7 years to earn. My space is small as it is, and my Neon barely fits between the Dakota and Tahoe I park in between. I would have to park a big car out in back and even then that area is pretty small. On top of that, if it rains the area in the back of our lot floods. The idea is get rid of the Neon, so suggestions to still keep it around if I get a B-body is a no no. So what do ya'll think? Screw the small cars and go for the big V8 and sacrifice parking, or stick to something small so I can still garage it/have covered parking? If I go small, I wanna try to find a decent Honda that hasn;t been raced out and been thru 18 motors....or soemthing foreign anyway, I am thru with American 4-bangers. |

i like this idea very much! I have suspicion that the tahoe is responsible for some dings I have on my right side.....and the dakota on my left is DEFINITELY repsonsible for the line of 6 dings in my left rear door....the corner of her door lines up perfectly

If I could find one in our price range that is in good condition I would go for it. Impala's around here (if you can find GOOD ones for sale) go for over $6000. We want to stay under that and not have to get another loan. I like the idea of doing a Caprice/Impala clone too, but there are a few locals already doing that. I am thinking Roadmaster jsut because not too many people are doing them for project cars. |

Re: WANTED: Your opinions
If garaging is an issue then I'd definitely go for the smaller car.

Re: WANTED: Your opinions
Well, I love my Caprice. I won't tell you what to buy, but I've never had a problem with it except for having to replace the tranny when I first bought it. They are very reliable cars imo. I beat the hell out of mine regularly. However maintenance plays an important part in any car. It is an ex cruiser, and I would have to say that it was in great shape when I got my hands on it. If you do decide to look for one, the best advise I would give is to check thoroughly for any kind of frame damage from accidents or curb jumping.
Good luck, whatever your decision!
