'01 Silverado Radio Advice

I have a 2001 Silverado LS Extended Cab, the truck came with a really plain sounding radio and I've decided that an upgrade to something better is in order. I really like the in dash 6-disc CD changer that is being installed in the new trucks and have a few questions.

1. Will this radio fit in the dash with no mount or bracket changes? (Looks like it would)

2. More importantly, will this radio work in my truck.

3. What type of speakers would make an excellent choice without breaking the bank?

4. If it won't work, can someone recommend a good alternative.

5. Anyone know a decent online store to purchase the radio and speakers from?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Sam

Re: '01 Silverado Radio Advice

From what I've been told, the new 03, 04 radios will not work, they are supposedly a bit bigger, but I've never measured it myself. I'd like to have one if they fit. As far as speakers, any good aftermarket brand will make a big sound difference. I prefer kenwood, infinity, polk, and MB quart just to name a few. If the factory option you mentioned will not work, you can get a good aftermarket cd player, I have a JVC and have not had a single problem out if it for several years.
A good online store would be www.crutchfield.com or www.discountcarstereo.com

Re: '01 Silverado Radio Advice

Hey bevlins, I have an in-dash 6cd GM radio (part #15058231). It was manufactured 5/19/01 and came from a 2001 GMC Envoy. I bought it for my 2004 Silverado but the dealer said it couldn't be unlocked in anything but a 2001. So I'm stuck with it. It's for a bose system, so you would want to check to see if it will work for your system. I'm thinking $75.00. Email me if your interested. [email protected]
Thanks, Kurt
