My 2001 gp did not come with Keyless remote. No AUO RPO code under trunk lid. Can I install a receiver from another gp? And where would it be located? Do I have the wiring in my vehicle for this????
Any help would be appreciated.... Steve |

Re: 2001 keyless remote location?
If i were you i'd install an aftermarket security system or remote start. This way you can operate all your locks while having the peace of mind of a security system or luxury of a remote start. The security systems are less expensive and easy to install. Or you could even by an aftermarket keyless entry module. It may be cheaper.

Re: 2001 keyless remote location?
Well all the cabling is there. What you have to find out at your local dealer with the VIN number is to see if the BCU that you car has support the feature. The antena for the remote keyless entry on my 98 GTP is located behind the trip computer. It is s small block a 1.5 square are by .5" thick. What year is yours?

Re: 2001 keyless remote location?
Mine is a 2001 (SE.....). I did receive a small receiver and two remotes (all for $40). I guess I should have asked for the BCU also. The worst that can happen is it won't work, I hope.

I'm a tech at a Pontiac dealer. You're def better off installing an aftermarket keyless entry system as opposed to installing GM parts. GM keyless entry ties into the body control module etc. Just make sure that whoever installs the aftermarket system does a good job because we see all the time where someone hacks in a system and the security system won't allow the car to start.

Re: 2001 keyless remote location?
Thanx, Brian. I just made a call to a descent after market installer in my area this morning. I don't really want to "screw up" anything and end up going to the dealer. I've had the car 3 years, and it has never been back to the dealer. I'll sell the junkyard stuff on eBay.
thanx again, steve |

Re: 2001 keyless remote location?
Good thinking! Try to make sure it is a DEI authorized dealer. They have really nice product. Also, you could try your GM dealer to see if they offer Automate brand keyless entries. It is DEI's best line specially for dealers. It has a lifetime, nationwide warranty@

Re: 2001 keyless remote location?
All the Pontiac dealers in my area sent me to the same place for aftermarket install, after I asked questions about "just plugging in my junkyard material".
Thanx for the advice, steve |
