Question Keyless entry?

I think my 1998 GMC Jimmy SLT may have keyless entry capability, but I'm not sure. I bought it used and did not get a remote (nor an original key).

How do I find out if it has a keyless entry receiver? If it does, how do I get a remote with the right frequency?

Thanks for the help.

Give the dealer the VIN number of the vehicle and they can sell and program the keyless entry for you. Be aware that the person who sold you the vehicle may have been hiding the fact that the keyless entry system did not work.

Also the key fobs do have batteries, like watch batteries, that do need replacement oce in awhile. Some people still haven't figure that one out yet.. . Just pop them open with a tiny screw driver.

Re: Keyless entry?

They may ask you for codes on your RPO tag. It is a tag that contains underline codes that document the options on the assembly line. Sometimes its in spare tire tool comaprtment, glove box or on dash board. I can't remeber which if the ask for those codes ask them for the location of the tag.

Re: Keyless entry?

Thanks again. I went to the dealership, they looked up the build and saw that it did, indeed, come with keyless entry. The remote is on order.

My wife called the dealer, not who we bought from, and they told her from the VIN number that we did indeed have keyless but they were likely lost somewhere in it's life. Ours is a 1999. We ordered one from ebay that arrived today. We did all the same things for my 1995 Riviera and the dealer programmed it for $19.95. We both paid less than $15.00 for the ebay beepers. We are going for the dealer tomorrow to program hers. It isn't worth the hassle for any other option. We both got our beepers within a week after winning the bids on ebay, I don't believe a dealer could have done any better on time . Good luck.
