need help, i want to remove my engine(cavalier 95 2.2)

well, i bought this cavalier (2.2l ohv 95) last week from my friend, it has a crack on headblock....so i found a used one to replace it. the problem is, i would like to pull the whole engine out and clean/install it and put it back and i dont know how. i read haynes this afternoon, still have no clue, so i come to internet and find helps

i have my car in the garage, and i have its head removed.
i bought all gaskets and new bolts. also an used head

i believe that i have to drain engine and transmission's oil, drain cooling. and drop transmission then pull engine out.

i have to be honest, i am a total newbie, but willing to learn and i dont have lots of money. also, my poor french english

i want to know, what do i really need ? to do a total engine clean up.
and how to do it. as more detail as possible

thanks for any help

PS, i took many picture of my engine bay and head piece..of anyone can hook picture for me, it would be nice

Re: need help, i want to remove my engine(cavalier 95 2.2)

those engines are kind of a pain to pull. i wouldn't pull it unless i was changing out the pistons/cam/crank. if you really want to pull it it's a pretty straight forward procedure just a hell of a lot of work. first off you don't need to pull the tranny. i assume you have an automatic.
1. if you take off the starter and the plastic splash shield on the tranny you can remove the torque convertor bolts.
2. unhook all the crap from the motor thats conected to anything. fuel lines, wiring harness, hoses, exhaust.
3. remove hood
4. position engine hoist and hook up chain to a good lift point. remove engine mounts.
5. put floor jack under tranny to suport it.
6. remove engine to tranny bolts and it should lift straight out.
if your cars a standard the procedure is a little different.

thanx for information,my car is manual 5sp...

the reason why i want to pull out the engine is that the longblock has lots of rush, i want to clean it,....since its has 190k km on it, i dont know if its gonna worth the job time.

do i really need a engine hoist and stand ?

i would just spray it down with engine degreaser and and pressure wash it then paint it while it's still in the car

This is not a job for a newbie... change the head, and clean the block.. dont pull everything.. and yes, you need an engine hoist..

Re: need help, i want to remove my engine(cavalier 95 2.2)

thanks for the input....
i really want to pull out the engine, to learn about mecanics...... this car cost me 600$ and 30$ for the used head, 80$ new gaskets and bolts.... if i ask a garage to fix my car, they will charge me for 200$, i would spend this money and buy a engine hoist.

since i am newbie, i guess i have no choice to waste my money
