Custom CAI for 97 GA
Working on building a custom cold air intake to make my engine breath a bit easier and need a bit of advice.
I plan to get rid of the airbox all together and go with a more direct intake. I have it all mapped out except for a suitable filter. I'm going to use a smooth hose between the MAF and throttle body and use a 3"x3" fernco coming off the MAF and use a filter attatched to that. However, I'm at a loss on how to build a filter and get on there. Was thinking a few heads would be better than one. And if I can swing it (still mapping it out in my mind) I'd do a bit of plumbing under the hood and arrange it so it's a true CAI and have another hose coming off the filter and going lower into the bay--maybe behind the radiator to pick up some fresh O2. Any ideas? --Jason

Re: Custom CAI for 97 GA
Its easy and cheap to do yourself. Pcv pipe or aluminum pipe works the same structural wise. pvc is cheaper and more heat resistant , aluminum is lighter and looks cooler. I use a Oil Dressed air filter , the element is enclosed in a f-150 air filter box using the same size filter and cut off the rear of the box just enough to fit the filter lock ring on.
I needed a tube to fit to the filter cus it was just a big hole , i used a 4" to 3" rubber pvc joint and fused it in the filter element. the 3" portion sticks out and connects to the MAS and is conected by a short pvc pipe to the throttle body. on the lower front side of the filter box i put a 4'' hole in and connected a 4'' pipe that leads to a y through the front fender the y splits off to each fog light port and is my make shift ram air setup. the end of the filter box is open to the fender through a hole , i plug it when goin out to the highway for a sealed ram air box. Its pretty easy to do , just use your imagination , by the way my set up costed me 120 dollars cnd. |
