Re: Governer

you might be able to get an aftermarket programer like a hypertech or something that will do it i don't know if they make any that are compatible with your car

Re: Governer

Yeah the malibu is electronically governed at 115MPH. In order to defeat the governer, you must have the ECU reprogrammed. This isn't an easy job and requires special tools, unless you purchase a preprogrammed chip. I *highly* recommend you upgrading your brakes, such as cross-drilled and/or vented front rotors, ceramic brake pads, and possibly a rear disk brake conversion and new pistons all around w/ a new master cylinder if you seriously plan on driving in excess of 95MPH in your car. OEM equipment on passenger cars are not designed to handle this kind of extreme driving and in an emergency, you could experience lethal brake fade.

Question Re: Re: Governer

The gov. on my '98 malibu kicks in at 105 mph. Irritating as hell. I'm having a really hard time finding a preprogrammed chip. Anyone have any suggestions where to look for one of these? And can a chip like this handle other programming such as fuel/air mixture changes for overall performance increase?
