Hot Hot Wheel on 97 Mustang
My 97 Mustang's rear passenger side wheel gets super hot if traveled around 25 miles or more (from one end of the island of Guam to the other, one-way). Checked brakes, calipers ok, brakes turn, (just changed brake pads to see if that was problem, no help). Checked e-brake, it functions ok. Run out of things to check. By and by, car came with ABS. ABS no longer functioning, $1400 to fix system, not interested. Any suggestions on what could be wrong. Thanks

You said the ABS is not working, maybe it has to do with that, ya never know. Otherwise maybe you should bleed the rear brakes. Perhaps something is causing the piston to hold up?

Re: Hot Hot Wheel on 97 Mustang
Make sure your wheels are not torqued at a higher rating than the factory specs. If they're torqued too high, you may have worn out the wheel bearings. This may be causing the heat problem.

definitely check those bearings. support the car on the rear axle and try to wiggle the tire around in a couple directions (horizontal and vertical work fine). even if you dont' feel teh wheel clicking, i would still pull the axle and look at the bearing itself. this involves opening the rear differential, so it would be a helluva great time to change your gearing =D. also, check your rear diff fluid, just in case. oh yeah, and if somebody dropped the ball and didnt' grease the wheel bearing sufficiently, that would definitely cause your problem.
