high boost application
what type of mods would i have to do to a newer gsr jdm block in order for it to handle around 15 psi? i know you'd have to do all the internals and probably do some sleeving... but what about the head and such? and would the axle be the only thing i would have to replace suspension wise?

Re: high boost application
this is what our engine packages consist of:
up to 15psi and no more & from 300-400hp atw wiseco pistons 10 overbore 9.5 comp eagle rods arp head studs cometic high performance headgasket clevite 77 bearings full engine balance your local tuner shop should perform the above work for around $3500 + tax to run over 15psi or if you know that you will be at or around 350 hp atw to start out with your should go ahead and take the next steps: golden eagle sleeves what ever bore size you want, oringd, line bored, bored and honed. that block will hold up to 60psi! that doesn't mean that the rest of the build will.. haha point is the sky is the limit after you sleeve it. cost for sleeving: the sleeving should start out around $750 + $250 line boring + $100 bore and hone these prices are for you to compare and have your local tuner shop set you up. |

yeah.. all that displacement jibba jabba effectively means nothing to me really.. and i wasn't really shooting for 350 hp.. that'd send me off the road with torque steer! 300 whp was kind of a cap, considering i'm going to be driving the car quite often, and the engine i have now is just the stock 93 rs engine, but i plan on buying a swap to work with (set it up on a stand and redo all the internals) most likely a b18c 94-95 jdm engine, but then again, if i'm going to replace all the internals and stuff, do you think it'd be easier to just build a custom engine from scratch? this engine is going to be kind of an after work/ weekend job and will probably take around a month to get done with just me and my bud workin on it, the only thing i'd really have to get done professionally is the sleeving, i have already rebuilt a 350 for my old highschool racing team's chevelle. i would assume that if i got a custom block that it could handle the high boost without sleeving (not too sure about that) so that could save me some money. i'm not really sure about any of this custom block and stuff tho, because i have no idea what comes with it, like, would it just be with the hunk o metal with all the properly drilled/machined coolant passages?
as for the turbo, i am definitely counting on running it with an i/c (who doesn't??) i don't know if the... aw crap i forgot what i was saying.. something about VATN turbo's.. aw hell i hate it when i do that .. oh yeah.. i was wondering if the vatn turbo's can handle 15 psi of boost, and if the electronics are still all the same and piping and stuff (i really want that bov sound ) or if you have any suggestions Hypsi87 i'm totally open to anything right now. all your knowledge of turbo's is much appreciated!!

are you running an automatic? If so forget the BOV. have you ever heard a turbo without one? IMO it sounds sooo much better than a BOV Yea ther are people who are going to be gung ho on how your turbo will fail from compressor sugr and all sorts of stuff like that. With an automatic, you don't suge the compressor every time you shift. The way I look at it is this. The majority of the turbo buick community does not run a BOV and they last for a long time on our cars.

Turbos love automatics. you can't spool a turbo with out a load on the engine (for example clutch in). better top end though I guess

Re: high boost application
that's why you gotta shift lightning fast.. so the turbo doesn't have time to un-spool

Re: high boost application
I believe he was talking about launching. You could be sitting on the line revving your car to 7 grand and the turbo would barely be turning over. put in a 3500stall converter in an automatic and your turbo will spool right up.

Re: high boost application
i see... i've never heard of one of those... then again i haven't heard of a lot of things concerning turbo's... i'm a n00b when it comes to working on cars.. compared to most of you guys that is
