87 RX-7 Vs. S-2K and WS-6

1200 Miles on my Street port 1 hr. of dyno time to make sure it is running rich enough to be safe and no boost control so I am only pulling 0.7 bar or 10 PSI up at the top of my RPM band = 320 RWHP right now.

I took the 7 out for a spin it was a great night for driving. I am cruising along this 4 lane highway w/ stop lights and an Acura Integra starts doing this fall behind fly up behind me deal. He was kinda pissing me off. Then an S-2000 with an exhaust and lots of stickers on the side of it pulls along side, there is a light changing ahead and the S2000 is about to be lined up w/ me except this dork in an Explorer decides to stop at the yellow. :scratch:

I swing behind the S-2000 and the Integra is next to the S-2000. Light green I nearly rear end the S-2000 and have to let off. We clear the explorer and I swing out as I shift to second. Now there is nothing in front of us for a good mile easy. I run her through 2nd just walking away shift to 3rd and hit it hard look up and the S-2000 is a dot in my rearview.

I stoped and talked to them they were all asian and he knew rotaries pretty good. He said 13BT right or do you have a 3 Rotor? I laughed and said no 13B-REW with a single. They were pretty cool. He has excuses so I see another race in the future.

So I am driving back ther other way since I passed the store I intended to go to when I met the S-2000. I see a WS-6 trying to get a SS Camaro to go. My buddy (who has a 375FWHP Eclipse) was behind me in his pickup truck and saw me. He was begging me on our Nextels to take out the WS-6. I really didn't see a safe opportunity. So I hung back. We passed a cop w/ someone pulled over. MY V-1 was going nuts pointing to Ka the rear after I passed so the cop.

The road opened up but I did not want to go. Cop too close by. Plus he was getting in his car, done with the pull over.

We were heading to a 2 mile long bridge and we were alone, traffic was about 1/2 mile ahead. He looked over at me and hit it. I downshifted to second and hit it he had a car on me by the time I took off. I shifted to 3rd and started walking up on him slowly. By 110 MPH I had him by 1 car. It was not devestating kill but I hung w/ him and passed him so I was happy especially since I was not running any boost control boosting a mere 10 PSI and the car is definatly not tuned for optimum performance.

I am taking off of work in about 2 weeks and heading to the dyno for the day. I will get this car tuned once and for all.

BTW - As we were hitting over 100 MPH my V-1 was telling me there was radar shooting from behind. I hit my brakes hard and pointed behind me and pointed at my V-1 to the WS-6 as he got along side me. The cop eventually caught up but had nothing on us. I did a u-turn and went back to the store I was intending to go to.......again.

The WS-6 Guy was cool we both gave thumbs up to each other. That was the closest race I have ever been in with this car.

geez your car is faster than a c5 vette. i don't think i could beat a ws6, thats the trans am ram air right, you have a very fast rx-7!

hey where do you live Jim? If you ever go by Pettit and see a black Impala SS sitting accross the street at a transmission shop thats my families shop. I see all kindsa wicked shit comming out of Pettit some days, Those 3 rotors are the best, those things fly! I also periodically see a rx8 over there that sounds pretty loud, almost like an open exhaust lol.

I was thinking about buying a FC3s, ........
and then swapping in a chevy

Sounds like you have a sweet ride... Any idea what year the WS-6 was? LT1, LS1? Modded or stock?

I thought all WS6 models were the LS1 engines.

This was a newer Ram Air I would guess a 2002 model. I have a friend that knows the car well (the guy in the pickup). I will ask him what its packing.

I know it had at least a cat-back because the pipes were huge.

The last time I 1/4 miled I ran a 12.6 short shifting and running 270RWHP. So after we finish dialing it in.... I imagine I will get kicked out of the track for no roll bar.

They've been making the Trans Am WS6 since the 80's. All it is, is a suspension package, same motor as the regular trans am, but on the LS1's it also came with ram air.

You should try your hand at a newer Z06 Corvette then. The T/A WS6's only do 13.5 stock(estimated). The Z06 does a 12.5 stock(estimated)

I have not been able to get a Z-06 to bite same for a couple of Vipers I have encountered. I also came along a Ferrari Modena one day and paced him for 10 miles trying to get the white haired old man to "school" me so I could school him. At that time I was running 1.5 bar.

I ran alongside a C-5 at the track when I ran my 12.6 he ran a 13.3.

I all honestly the car was built / setup for Autocrossing. It has a pretty small turbo on it. I have a T-78 sitting waiting until I fonally decide to stop Autocrossing. My last event is in Indianapolis April 30th at the Rotary Revolution. Then its T-78 time with a 50 shot of N2O.
