Smog tubes for headers?
(Ive got a similar post going elsewhere)
Anybody ever weld Smog Air tubes to a set of headers. I have an 80’s carbureted vehicle that has stock manifolds with the air injection fittings.I’ve tried to run with the smog pump disconnected, but it WILL NOT pass my state emissions check without it. I’d like to increase the exhaust performance with a set of headers but nobody makes headers with the smog fittings for my application. I know the mini-manifold-tube things are available separately. Has anyone ever attached these to a set of headers that didn’t have it? How would you do it? Drill, tap, & mount fittings in each runner & thread the tubes on? Or drill holes & weld the smog-tube-thing directly into the runners? And if you did it, did the welds last for awhile, or did they break? |

state smog tests... boooooooooo.
i dunno about all that. ideally, you would want to get a set of headers that are not coated. then do your welding and fitting, and once you've done all that, then get them coated. that will preserve and maybe even strengthen your welds. that's what i love about living in michigan... nobody gives a hoot about smog tests, i've never even heard of somebody having one done in this state. computers with exhaust sniffers are for adjusting your air/fuel ratio around here =) anyway, good luck. hope it all works out.
