Air filter?

I have an 84 rs v8(duh) 305 and i was curious how much horsepower a K&N high performance rechargable air filter will add by itself. I've been told numbers as low as nothing and as high as aobut 15. BTW I'm carbed not injected. Thanks in advance.

I really doubt that a K&N alone would do that much on most vehicles. A few years back I took my air clean totally out and took a quick 2 mile or so drive around. The car pulled SLIGHTLY harder at almost full throttle. I didn't really notice much of a difference with no filter at all, so I'd imagine that a K&N would have been a waste of money for my car. Every engine handles mods differently though.

My roommate swears that the K&N makes a noticeable difference in his 91 Camaro Z28. My cousin had a 91 Z28 also. He used to use a K&N filter for couple of years and said that it helped just a little. My cousin stopped using the K&N after he went to UTI in Texas. He told me that he thought that the K&N was making his intake look a little more dirty.

Most of the parts in a car work as a complete system. Usually changing just one part (such as an air filter) doesn't make much of a difference if the rest of the system isn't upgraded also.

Re: Air filter?

3-4 Horsepower. If you want some more power just get headers or somthing.

Re: Air filter?

yeah, put a blower on it i would say a safe bet for the filter adding power, might be 5hp, to possibly 10hp.

I recently put a k&n on my 95 Z28 and I really could not notice a differance between my old fram and the k&n. Don't get me wrong though a k&n will held your motor breath easier just for the fact it lets more air in.

As far as the blower I don't have that kind of money, and I plan on headers but I've heard they are fairly difficult to put on. How hard is it? Is it worth paying a mechanic? thx

Re: Air filter?

what kinda car do you have???? must not be a camaro, headers are a bitch in F-bodies, unless you can put em in through osmosis.
