?'s on my 93 Z
awhile back i have bought a new ring and pinion gear, stock it was a 3.23 , and i had it upgraded to the 3.73 b/c i have an auto, and ever since i got it put in my speedometer has been off by 6 mph. and i cant buy that stupid hypertech programmer 3 b/c i have a 93 not 94, so in other words i need a new plastic gear that is in the transmission currently it has 44 teeth on it, an i no i need a bigger one with more teeth .. buy my problem is that my chevrolet does not carry it . i even tried a local transmission shop an he said he was out of them,
So if anyone can tell me were i can get one of these plastic gear's at would help me out a lot, i was thinking SLP but i dont think they would carry that, but correct me if im wrong. thanx for your help one other thing one of the chevrolet's i called said i might just be able to get a smaller gear deal on the tailshaft an that might help it but he said he wasnt for sure if it would be exactly right so tell me what you think about this remark to also if u can? |

Re: ?'s on my 93 Z
well there are the two gears, the driven gear on speedo sensor, and a driving gear on the output shaft of the trans. so changing either would work. if the trans guy said he was out of them, he can probly order it. i would just have him order it.

Re: ?'s on my 93 Z
yeah, change the one in the speed sensor if you can. it's 10 times easier, and you don't need the gear puller to get the old one off the shaft...

Re: ?'s on my 93 Z
Your local GM dealer will have the right gears.
You have to get it out of an 80s camaro with 3.73s.

Re: ?'s on my 93 Z
you shouldnt need a gear puller to get it off the output shaft, but you do have to drop the driveshaft, torque arm, remove the tailshaft housing, and release a holding clip under the gear, and pull it off. so yeah, i would say change the gear on the speedo sensor.
