88 Accord problem, help appreciated
Hello all. New to these forums, got me a question I do. Anyway, on my '88 Accord there's a little rattle coming from the engine (sorry, can't be more specific...) at about 3500+ rpm. Any ideas on what it could be?
Also, if I bring my car too high in speed (say around 75-80) it'll start to chug. That is to say it seems like it's getting gas in intervals so it'll start bouncing. This isn't consistant either, it only happens sometimes. So any ideas on what this could be? Dirty induction? Engine misfiring? something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

the little rattle could be anything.... i'm wondering though if you might have a bad rod or maybe a broken valve spring. is the car a manual or auto trany?
change your fuel filter, i bet thats whats the cause of your "chug" If your a fairly nice driver and never run your car hard it might just have alittle bit "stuffed up" so to speak... so if the motor is in fairly good condition it probably wouldn't hurt to drive the snot out of it and clean it out good.

Thanks. The tranny is manual. Aso for the second part, it really shouldn't be the fuel filter(s), as I just replaced both of those.

don't know what to tell you, check your fuel pump, to do this, take the line off at the fuel filter and measure how much fuel fills a bucket in a minute. I'm not sure how much this is, but check around online. Then second thing to try is stick a presure gauge on that line. They usually aren't that much, you can get an acctual gauge, or get a fluid presure gauge at a hardware store and the right fittings and hook her up. I'm guessing its a fuel delivery problem.
figure out what rpm it runs at when your driving 80mph (about 3,600 RPM if I remember right) and then drive that RPM in say second or third gear... does it still do it? I'm just curious. I can't help you on the rattle unless you can track it down alittle closer. sorry. hey good luck though!
