Hi, my 97 with 3.0, 3 speed shifts fine except when starting to back up it shudders. any ideas? It has 144,000 , is it time to get rid of? Thanks

Sounds like a broken motor mount. Block the wheels and put on the E-brake. Open the hood and have someone watch as you place the running vehicle in Reverse. You should see the engine jump a little if the mount is broken. It's OK to push very slightly on the gas during this test but if your E-brake is shot, don't.

would guess ,,,direct clutch problem {in the transmission} any problems
with 3rd gear ???? this clutch is used in 3rd also. Not real cheap to fix, but you take such a hit to sell broken!!! |

How Bout?
I had a the reverse band plate break, I was getting a clunk when I put it in reverse, I am not saying it couldn't be a mount problem, but if they are ok, remove the pan and check the bank adjustment.
