Just got summoned for jury duty

8 day trial apparently...I can get excused for a good reason, but I think I'm going to go for it, it's a week off, it's something different, and it's a whole new experience. Just very sobering in a way. And no, I can't post details of the trial.

Anyone else served before?

In the States about 3 years ago, a woman turned up for jury duty wearing a full-on Star Trek 'Starfleet' uniform.
She was dismissed after a week for being nuts.

No I haven’t been called up yet. Taranaki was called up on a fairly big trial a while back.

I served my jury duty in Compton, CA. GUILTY! (carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.)

i got summoned twice but i threw the letter in the garbage once and when they sent me another i responded that i was a full time student and couldn't afford to give up any time. they haven't bothered me in like 2 years.

My boss has written a letter to get me excused. The date of the trial is right at the end of our financial year, so I'm needed for stocktaking...

Plus, this would cost me money.

Unless you're in an essential occupation (police, fire, etc) I doubt it.

It could still get cancelled though.

You should do it anyway.Everybody wants to see criminals caught and jailed,but whenever the jjury service letters go out,they flee on the thinnest of pretexts.

Anyway, don't they have to check if you're an unbiased person first. couldn't you just say, oh, I think everybody <insert offence here> should die.

I thought they paid people for jury duty?
