Crankshaft Position Sensor?

Hey, I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. It seems to have a tendency to want to shut off on me when i am traveling down the road. Mostly on rainy days or warmer days especially. All of a sudden the engine just like cuts out and leaves me sitting. and then it doesn't want to start up, but after about 30 minutes or so, it fires right up. I know it has to be a relay or fuse, so could someone tell me what is wrong with it? Thanks Alot.

Re: 95 Grand Cherokee Laredo shuts off while driving it on the road. HELP!

I have a 96 Grand Cherokee and i had the same problem as you are having, i took it to the shop and they changed the CrackShaft Sensor, some plate in the distributer and some other crap i can't remember, but when i picked up the car it was still shuting down on me, so i took it back and they found out it was some loose wires in the computer, they took it off and took it to some other place and they fixed it and the car ran great after that, i am currently having another problem with the car shutting down on me, but i think it's something with the fuel, another shop checked out the fuel pump and said it's good, but i'm stumped from here and am going to take it to a Jeep dealership to put it under the computer to get a thourough report on the car. I would recommend you figure out the specific problem or you could spend alot of money on parts you never needed to change. Please post back with anything you did to the car to fix the problems, thnxs and gl.

Re: 95 Grand Cherokee Laredo shuts off while driving it on the road. HELP!

My 97 was doing the same thing, and I took it in to have the fuel pump replaced. Then took it back 3 days later because they put in a faulty Fuel pump. For a while there Jeep was making fuel pumps that wheren't keeping any pressure in the lines.

Has to be electrical like mines had then, and if it's while your driving it's something that's moving around and causing a short somewhere, mines happened to be in the computer inside the car and not around the motor. Forget the fuel and check electrical now, maybe go to a shop that works on the electrical problems on a car and they can figure whats the problem, gl

Next time it cuts out, check if there is any spark at the plug wires. If a coil is overheating, it will cease to put out a spark. After it cools, it will work again. There may be some signs of leakage around the coil. Coils are oil-filled for cooling. If the oil has leaked out they will overheat. These are some classic symptoms.

Well obviously if he checked everything with the fuel system, then the next logical choice would be some sort of electrical problem causing a short somewhere and shutting the car off, my reply was to have the electrical system checked not completly the computer.

Also, do you have a problem with people giving some advise on a problem they have or something?
