95 Blazer probs. just replaced EGR valve...please HELP!!!

I have a 95 blazer s10 4.3l vortech and the other day I was driving home and i was pulling into gas station...when I hit the brakes they were completely stiff and the idle kept reving up and down. Sometimes it would die trying to start up. I heard that 95's have a prob with the egr valve and so I replaced mine....sure enough it was stuck. After i installed the new one it ran like a dream for one day and then it died on me and when I tried to start it back up it sounds all rough at idle and if i press the gas too hard itll die and white smoke comes out where the air filter is. I was able to get it home only slightly pressing gas down about 25 mph id say.....Just need some help determining what the prob could be....my blazer has app. 140,000 miles on it.........Any advice???

Re: 95 Blazer probs. just replaced EGR valve...please HELP!!!

Symptom of failing fuel pump. Need to find a gauge that will connect to the valve on the fuel rail and check for 55 to 60 psi. Might try a new fuel filter if it's been a while since replacement. Possible the new EGR got a piece of carbon in it too, might pull it off and check the pintle and seat.

Also a symptom of a failing CPI unit... Pull your upper plenum and check for washing... Also pull and clean your IAC..

Re: 95 Blazer probs. just replaced EGR valve...please HELP!!!

I think i know what it is but it will cost ya. I have worked on two blazers 94 and 95 with similar problems. It is the fuel injectors. Also called the "spider valve" b/c it looks like a spider. There are 2 problems with it. The two fuel lines coming into the injector could be broken or cracked. This causes raw fuel to be dumped into the intake manifold. What happens is that enough fuel finally gets in the madifold that when you turn a corner the fuel falls into your cylinders and flods them. I am guessing that you blazer smokes and has decreased horsepower. Has problems idiling. To fix the fuels lines it cost around $70 for parts from the dealer. Your second problem could be the diaphram on the "spider valve". This is what sucks, the diaphram leaks and then it dumps fuel into the maniflod just like the the lines did. The problem is, this little diaphram can not be replaced seperatly and you have to buy the whole valve. This costs around $250 and that price is NOT from the dealer. Before you buy anything, take your intake manifold off and you will probably see your problem. It will probably be nasty inside. Have a friend turn your car on so that the fuel comes on. DO NOT START THE BLAZER OR TURN IT OVER. look to see if you see any fuel leak from anywhere. It will probably be the fuel lines or the "spider". Hope this helps. Good luck!

I pretty much had the same exact problem. I ended up having to replace the lower intake manifold. That took care of it.

Re: 95 Blazer probs. just replaced EGR valve...please HELP!!!

The symptoms listed above sound like what is happening with mine. Bad gas mileage, bog off idle, smell of gas from outside the vehicle.

Is there any gaskets or parts I need to remove the plenum to check the spider valve?

Gregg

You should just replace the plenum gasket afterwards is all...
