Full exhaust set up...

Ok i've been thinking... I'm going to do a full exhaust set up. What i want to do is get a cheap ebay header (I definately cannot afford dc sports or anything else) to a high flow cat then 2.5 inch piping to my muffler. How would this do? I mean is this a crappy idea or how would some of you guys go about doing it? And also, with just a straight pipe from my headers to my muffler with no cat would my car be obnoxiously loud? Thanks guys!

Re: Full exhaust set up...

I've got a ceramic header connected to a Magnaflow catalytic converter to a pipe that splits and leads to two high flow mufflers (purely aesthetic). I custom fabricated the pipe from the cat to the mufflers.

The catalytic converter does little to silence the sound, it's mostly the muffler. High flow mufflers are almost always loud, whether you like the low tone is personal preference.

I remember myself hearing my car for the first time with the whole system: "Damn, for something called a muffler, it sure doesn't muffle very well." It sounded like a helicopter. Annoying.

not to hijack this tread or nothing but aces how much did it cost you to have the piping done from that cat back? and with the way you split it that also would make it a little quiter than just one exaust pipe to the bak doesnt it? also did ya get good gains from that?

Re: Full exhaust set up...

unless you're boosted. 2.25" piping will do just fine. no need to do 2.5".

a straight pipe WITH a cat is loud enough. without, it'll just be that much worse. i'd suggest against that idea personally. you and those around you will appreciate it.

is there any particular reason you're doing a custom job and not just purchase a brand name exhaust?

Re: Full exhaust set up...

I'm doing a custom set up because i think it will be much cheaper than doing a pre fab exhaust. And also i only said 2.5 because i thought stock diameter was 2.25... I think that will be enough though now that i know...

Re: Full exhaust set up...

My custom piping costed roughly the same as if I bought a GReddy EVO cat back. The only plus was you get to pick what toys you'd like.

Make sure the place that you bring your things in to make the pipe are able to produce mandrel bent pipes; its not a killer, but might as well get the less restrictive pipe possible. You also want something corrosion resistant.

Re: Full exhaust set up...

I'd just like to point out that, unless you go to a really decent exhaust shop, most places don't offer manderal bent exhaust piping that the name brand exhaust manufacturers offer. I think there's only one guy that does it in my area..

He's right, it also costs a little more.
