Re: How do you go about changing the oil on a 92 prelue?

what engine do you have first of all.

if it's a H23a (2.3 liter non-vtec), you first want to remove the drain plug at the rear of the engine block pan. it is a 17mm bolt. then remove the filter, which you will turn counterclockwise. it is located about 1 ft above the drain plug, kinda behind the exhaust. you really can't miss it. after everything is drained, put the drain plug back in. pour some oil in the new filter, and with a clean finger rub oil around the seal of the filter (this will prevent leaking). screw the filter back on. then under the hood there is a cap that says "engine oil" take it off and pour in your oil. it should take 4.5 quarts including what you poured in your filter. most people use a 5w30 in winter 10w30 in summer, it doesn't really matter. good luck.

It's the same on all cars, pretty much.

In short: Remove the bottom plug, pan it. Cap it when oil's all out and remove the top. Pour in new oil, cap the top plug, and you're done.

I like to do my own oil changes too. You never know what brand oil they use, or what ever other stuff disgruntled workers would put in there.

for the oil change, I unscrew the engine oil cap before I unscrew the oil pan plug so the oil comes out faster. it might help to get a filter wrench to remove the filter.

hey guys, you gotta jack this sucker up, which means you will use a jack stand to keep this tub of rice off you. If this car falls on you, you will die! Put some oil on the filter gasket ( i prefere grease) and tighted slightly tighter than hand tight. Yep, you gonna need a filter wrench.

All of these post on how to change oil is going to make me
The best way is do this is to go to you local jiffy lube or oil express or whatever they call it in your neighborhood and have it changed...It costs $19.95 for them to change my oil...6 quarts of oil and a filter costs me an average of $14..why not spend the xtra 5 bucks and avoid the mess.

not if you have a lift.... I usually tighten my filter up a quarter turn past hand tight.

Hey.. if you trust your car to a bunch of highschool punks, that's your problem. Five bucks saved is five bucks more I can put into my car.

I only counted 5, including your suggestion to take it to some commercialized oil changing place.

The guy wanted to know how we do it though, so everyone explained.

Re: How do you go about changing the oil on a 92 prelue?

i dub this the thread that won't DIE!!!
everyday i get an email pertaining to this thread!

steps to change your oil without getting your own hands dirty, OR not living with the shame of paying someone else to "change your oil": (only works with a low car)
==================================
1-drive over speed bump at 45
2-wait for oil to drain after oil pan breaks off
3-pay mechanic to replace your oil pan, he will automatically add new oil.
