new Jetta VR6 owner with some questions.
what a difference a german makes. i just traded in my 2002 malibu that i've not even had for 6 months for the speed demon that is the 2000 VR6(manual). talk about fun...
1) does it really take 7.5 quarts of oil? 2) is there a quality aftermarket chip that will not be bad on the engine, or the extended warranty(through daimler/chrysler)? 3) need some good all season/performance tires under $100/ea 4) i read many reviews at edmunds.com about the driver/passenger windows just randomly collapsing inward. what's the deal? 5) car has 42000 miles, any known issues? 6) no cruise light indicator comes on when cruise is activated. vw dealer(not the selling dealership) told me that a cruise light indicator was not an option in 2000, only since 2002 models. is this bullocks? 7) are they serious about 10,000 mile oil changes on dyno oil? i've always used full syn...so 15k? thanks for any and all advice! |

Re: new Jetta VR6 owner with some questions.
About the windows -
In pre 2002 VW's, plastic retainer clips were used to hold the windows, which over time, would break causing the window to fall into the door. They have since used metal retaining clips and to my knowledge there has been a recall or TSB issued for the plastic, unreliable ones. Hope this helps. To check to see if your VW has had the new clips installed, you can contact VWoA or a local dealer and they can let you know by giving them your VIN. I would also check to see if there are any pending recall campaigns or TSB's (technical service bullitens) that still need to be performed on your new car. BTW, I used to own a 1997 Malibu that was bought with 48K miles on it that turned to be crap. By 65K miles I had went through 1 alternator, 1 intake manifold gasket, 1 set of rear control arms, issues with the key lock cylinder, ABS lights, starting issues once or twice, warped rotors and pads, cheap/weak wheel that needed to be replaced, and unstable idling constantly. That was all within less than two years. Although some may say that the VR6 is the most unreliable of all Jettas, it sure beats the heck outta any pre 2004 Malibu any day. I would say you chose a good vehicle. Jeremy |
