What is "the muscle" of Imports??

Me and my friends have always tossed this around, waht are the muscle cars of the import world. I'd say I have it narrowed down to this top five:

RX-7
Supra
300ZX
3000GT VR4
Skyline

We'd say all others fall somewhere below contendership, i'm interested to see others opinions. BTW i'd say that these cars cover their offspring i.e. no need to list 350Z or RX-8, they parents are on the list.

Re: What is "the muscle" of Imports??

i agree with you on the supra skyline, but imo, i think that the 300zx, 3000gt, and rx-7 are more of a sports car. those three have a sporty look to them. but the biggest japanese muscle car is the skyline.

hmm japanese muscle cars huh??
well im not too sure about that.. but so far it seems like when u have a skyline supra rx7 or some other turbo car.. the engines themselves are made to take more boost than it supposed to.. so i guess u can make any one faster than the other one.. but i gotta say its between the rx7 and the supra.. i downloaded clips of rx7s making 7's on the 1/4 mile.. n the supra engine is jus bulletproof.. i think the skyline is also one of the best candidates.. but i rather use that for the track and other types of those races.. it doesn't have that one attesa or whatever thing for nothing..

japanese muscles: rx-7, skyline, supra, vr4, 300zx, nsx,evo-8 and sti.
you say 3000gt is more of a sports car, thats what muscle is isn't it?
anything that runs the 1/4in 14.0 and less is jap muscle.
the vr4 runs 13.5 consistantly at the track i think thats very muscle like.
i know what muscle is, my dad has had a road runner hemi,71 grand prix. he now has a c5 vette. and a vr4 to his vette is gonna be a close race in the 1/4, vettes run 13.4 as a base time. only car that is doubtable a jap muscle is the 300zxtt which is the slowest out of the bunch in the 1/4. but imo it is def a jap muscle

Re: What is "the muscle" of Imports??

See, that's the debate, what are the Big Dog cars, and what are the little players... for instance, my friend said he wouldn't sell his type R to get an eclipse, he'd only to move "up" to an RX-7 or Supra. That's what I'm asking, is this the supreme list of Big Boys, or if not, what r your picks?? I've left out STI and EVO, 4 door muscle, come on now. Although STI is damn fast, but wait, it's still only a 4 cyl. NSX, hott!!! in terms of looks, way too over-priced per performance, and a n/a v6 smaller than the one in my camaro, is this muscle?

i agree with you about the four-door muscle thing. i dont know about the supra or 3000gt, but i know that the 300zx has a 3.0L and the skyline has a 2.6L. i just thought of something, nissan is a baby ferrari, they get good power outputs out of small engines.

Supra is definitely a muscle car...300zx id also list as jap muscle even though it has quite a bit of technology on the tt version. 3000gt probably but it has 4wd and a lot of gadgets compared to what muscle usually is...which is usually fairly simplistic. Some other cars to consider would be the Lexus GS400 and SC400...both are rwd v8 jap cars and other than their luxury interiors are very much a muscle car. Infinity produces a few v8 rwd cars also which could be considered muscle cars.

The skyline, nsx, and rx7 are closer to sports cars since they have much better handling than a muscle car. The rx7 and nsx are especially far away from muscle cars because of their drivetrain layouts (both are mid-engine) and they both employ some technology (nsx has an all aluminum body and rx7 uses a very unique rotary engine). The RX7 is probably the farthest from the cars you listed when you compare weight...the rx7 r1 weighs about the same as a cavalier which is about half a ton less than many muscle cars.

japanese muscles are not like american muscles, they can handle very well and usually turbo charged, they don't have to be like a mustang to be a japanese muscle, just cause rx7 is light doesn't mean anything its not american its japanese. and as for the 4 door thing, the so called first muscle was 4 door, plus things change, muscle meaning the engine is strong, looks is more based on the country, japanese cars look like slick quick cars, sometimes. and american cars look like monsters big strong men that work construction and don't take any s%#t.

Where did klohiq say anything about the rx-7's not being able to handle power? All he said was they are light.
