Re: Lookin for Cool Air Intake for RX-8
Bad idea,says my tech.
The 8's intake is complex, one stage opens at 7500rpm,and there are two others that open, in stages,at lower rpms. The K&N Typhoon Intake has been tested and found severely lacking,on Wednesday I'll be installing a K&N OEM replacement filter, and then be leaving well-enough alone. |

I don't know a whole lot about rotary engines, but i don't understand why a multi-stage intake would make any difference because in my experience more air, well is more air (which in most cases is better). Could you elaborate on the multi-stage intake...i would like to know more and why the AEM and K&N typhoon wouldn't work. The rotary engine intrigues me. I may be getting an RX-8 this summer and would like to know as much as possible about the car and rotary engines.

Some basic info. The rotary, a genius invention, has so much to know about it and we have so little time, Have fun with your RX-8.

Go to www.rotaryextreme.com. they have a cold air intake. That website specializes in aftermarket parts thats "rotary-safe". I say itz much better than the k&n cai.

Most 'cold' air intakes won't work on the '8.
The red bulkhead across the front of the battery/airbox is also the top of the rad.....take off the stock airbox and slip on a huge K&N, and all you will do is suck hot air from behind the radiator. The RotaryExtreme intake falls in to this category, though I believe Chuck does nice work..... You need to get air from the other side of that bulkhead, or you are just spinning your wheels.......slowly! . . . doc |
