First official race! against EVO

I was out getting taco bell tonight and on my way to the on ramp to the express way i spot a Mitsubishi EVO coming at me on the opposite side of the street.. My friend instantly starts going, " ewww EVO go get it", so i slow down do a 180 in the middle of the road and chace him down.. This is like 2am so there were 0 cars on the road.. So i catch up to this guy and his girlfriend.. we drive along side each other and we finally hit a red light on a pretty straight road.. So we are lined up and i just know he will spank me off the line.. Light turns green.. We were head to head through first gear.. we both had bad launches, mainly due to the temperature causing poor traction.. He bogged real bad and i spun a little off the line..we shift into second gear and he pulls about a car length ahead of me,, Again, bad traction i began spinning in second.. so from that point up to about 110 i was barley inching up to him and thats when i gave up.. So i got beat by a, what looked stock, evo by about a half a car length... No excuses from this guy, that evo beat me fair and square...I was expecting it because i knew the evo was slightly faster in the 1/4 and it was AWD.. My car is bone stock other than 4:10's and a K&N drop in filter...After doing some research just for the heck of it i found these stats:

So should he have won or do i need to practice launching?

Work on the launching.....I suck at it, but am workin on it, and thats where I get ganked.......Spin, spin, spin........

yea, i agree, i need more practice.. it doesn't help that i have the perfectly wrong tires to race with in cold weather either lol It was fun though.. i like racing weather i win or lose.. unless i lose a lot..

well i think a good launch will help but the evo has heads up as you will never out lauch him if he can drive it. Stock for stock I think the evo will beat you by that little bit it did. but hey look at it this way now you got a reason to get some more mods =D

Maybe the 4.10's are a little too short a ratio? Have you tried 3.73 in order to smooth out the launch?

well, i like the 4:10's i just couldn't get traction that night cause it was wicked cold.. which reminds me, when its real cold don't turbo cars run awesome and get a little bit more boost?

overall i'm happy, cause i know the evo is faster and i kept up with him, even began pulling a little..

they don't get more boost, but like any other car in cold weather they get better air than they would when it's hot and dry. and my idol dave chapelle spells his name like that.
and i like your post, very honest and mature. most every race thread is filled with boast and bad vibes.

yea, no sense in being a dick about losing cause i have respect for all cool cars.. i'm not sheltered to just mustangs.. theres alot of cars around here running boost and they are bound to be faster.. as a matter of fact i went for a drive in my buddy's turbo GSR.. He installed it over the winter and we are tuning it now cause naturally it runs crappy on the basemap.. yea i think dave chapell is hilarious too.. when i made the screen name i wasn't sure how to spell chapell so.. and i'm not sure if i can change it...

I've race an Evo 8 and it raped me. All I have is a K&N, and my shifter kind of sticks going into 2nd. My friend has a TSi and it's fast, but not that fast. He just blew the turbo though.

yea, the evo 8's are crazy.. i wanna race a mach 1 real bad.. see if they really run low 13's or not.. anyone have one and live in rochester?

I have raced a couple of EVO both on the track and on the street I have spanked them every time. The last EVO I raced, was kind of interesting though. Here is what happened... I was heading home from work the Monday after race day, and I still had my race number on my wind shield. It was about 9:30 pm and I stopped at a light when this black EVO pulled up next to me with the ugliest Green Neon Glow coming from under the car and that high winding noise of his MOMO Muffler. He yelled over to me and said that my Mustang sounded good and said does it run as good as it sounds... I told him I have no complaints, he made some remark I did not hear and then he said let's race, I told him that You do not want to race me... He just laughed and said ok let's see... He reved his motor and when the light changed we were off... I had him off the line no problem then I hit second and he pulled past me then I hit third then fourth and by that time it was all over... I had beat him by at least three car lengths... At the next light he pulled up to me and said, your mustang does not run 14:33 does it, I said to him where did you get that Idea, he said I saw your race time on your car window.. I laughed and said that was not my race time that was my race number...

Typical Ricer, Seen the Fast and the Furious one too many times...
