Fighting about a Goat

Been away for a while. I miss the wild arguements, opinions flying around like mash potatoes at a food fight. It's time for new one. 2K4 Pontiac GTO is a sports coupe with a stout rwd 5.7L v8 and 350 horses. It even has 200 on the speedometer. Mileage is crap at a whopping 18mpg on the highway, but it does come in purple. $31K on the sticker. Is it friend or foe?

According to its stats, still very muck a foe. Anything with a 6-speed LS-1 and rear wheel drive is a damn BEAST. My opinion on the looks is mixed, but i do think it has a nice sleek look and you have to remember the original "Goat" was just a box with a gass-guzzling performance monster V-8 under the hood.

Friend? Yes, if you drive one.

Foe? If you don't have one or you're the one that has to pay for gas.

it's a waste of money. I'd get a corvette.

It is a waste of money, for all of it's attributes it still doesn't run in stellar territory like I thought it would, someone go to the website and post the numbers on this thing.
I read an article on it in Motortrend and the numbers didn't really impress me for the money you are spending but the modding potential is great on these cars.

I actually like them, the interior is fucking sweet for sure. LS1 is one of my favorite engines out there, grips of torque on hand. I have to admit, I am very disappointed by the true dual exhaust that comes out looking like a dual outlet muffler on one side of the bumper.

RWD LS1 says is all though, can't go wrong with that.

Well those are great numbers but not the numbers I was looking for. I was looking for 0-60 and 1/4 mile times and if I can recall correctly MT only had that thing doing the 1/4 in the low 14's, which is modded 97 and 3.5 territory for less money.

Don't get me wrong though, the car is very nice and looks good plus that LS1 engine has so many mods available that it could very well run in the 12's like a vette once properly modded.

Couldn't find it. I went to 3 different sites and all I find was the brochure oriented info. Even some of that wasn't complete. Too soon maybe.

The base vette uses the same engine, the same size gas tank and pretty much the same specs but is about 500lb lighter. The z06 has 400hp/405torque but cost $20,000 more. Could you plunk down $33K on a GTO and have 20 grand for mods? Oh, yeah. An Intercooled Magnacharger for the LS1 is $6-7K with 130hp/130torque at 5 psi boost. Gotta get a new hood though.

Has anyone seen the April '04 Motor Trend which has a head 2 head between the GTO and Mercedes CLK55 AMG?

Re: Fighting about a Goat

Don't really think a Max and the GTO are in the same league.

I know I'd rather pull up to one in my Mach than in my fiancee's Max.

Obviously they're not in the same league as far as price goes but as far as speed they aren't much faster than a 3.5 Max, your wife has a 99 and believe you me, there is a night and day difference between the 99 3.0 and 2k2/2k3 3.5 Max, drive one of them and then you comeback and tell me.

I'd run against a GTO or a Mustang 99 and below anyday in my Max 3.5.

Re: Fighting about a Goat

i have it...

0-60: 5.4
0-100: 13.3
1/4: [email protected] (i dunno how they pulled that off...that must mean after 100 it slows down BIG TIME...or they had a bad start)

i think they used a auto in this tho cuz it says 4-speed auto for the tranny...

that is straight out of the mag
