93 525 fuel pump hiss getting louder

I have a 93 525 with only 80k miles, and it is in great shape inside and out. Runs great, it is just that the fuel pump seams to be hissing kind of loud.
Is that a good guess that it might need a new pump?
How big of a job is it to do?
Can I do it myself?
Is the fuel pump in the tank or outside of the tank?
