I'm about ready to drive this 96 blazer off a cliff! I've had nothing but problems out of it for the past few months and it doesn't even have 100,000 miles on it yet. Anyway, I installed a new distributer cap, replaced the spark plugs, fuel filter, and gave it a tune-up. The result, still won't start when cold. When I mean cold, I don't mean low temps. I mean that the engine has been off for an hour or more and its temperature is the same as the outdoor temp. It will start, but it takes several attempts. I've seen some stuff about the fuel pump and injection, and I plan to check the fuel pressure, but is there any other possibilities? Could it be a sensor or something? The mechanic said that he performed a diagnostic check on the computer and it showed that everything was OK. I feel that something "very expensive" needs replaced. If anyone has any more ideas, please let me know.
Thanks abunch! |

Re: still have starting problems!
Try cycling the key switch a few times before starting, what I mean is turn key on for 2 seconds, off for eight seconds on for 2 seconds, see if it starts right away after say three on sequences

Re: Re: still have starting problems!
I've tried doing this before, and I tried it again just like you said, but no results. The engines turns over and will start to fire only to stop. After several iterations of this, it will finally start. Note: I forgot to mention that I can hear the pump working after I try to start. Of course, I still need to check the fuel pressure.
It was worth a try though, thanks. Quote:

Re: still have starting problems!
I had a similiar problem and it was the fuel pump. I noticed my fuel pump was coming on and seemed to be working. But now that the new one is in I noticed that you can barely hear it. The difference is big.

I was afraid that the fuel pump was the problem. How much does one cost?

Re: still have starting problems!
depends. If you do it yourself some where in the neighborhood of 200-300. Add on at least 150 if you take it to the shop.

Re: still have starting problems!
I'm having a similar problem in my 97 Blazer. Get in turn key tries but doesn't start.
I found this solution: Get inturn key to "on" position wait about 2 seconds. I can hear an audible "click" behind the Glove Box, starts like a champ... So new routine, Get in, turn key to on put on seat belt, start blazer.. has worked for over a year... Hope this helps.. |

Re: Re: still have starting problems!
I tried that too! I also tried turning the key "on" & "off" multiple times. Today at work, I couldn't start it at lunch. After work, I finally got it to start but almost ran down the battey in the process. Yesterday, it started on the second or third try. Today it was wet and rainy, could that have anything to do with it? Anyway, its "going BACK to the shop tomorrow" (A common theme for this piece of crap).

I just got the fuel pump replaced and it seems to be working fine now (approx $400 parts & labor). We'll see in the long run how things turn out. Thanks everyone for your help!

Re: still have starting problems!
take breather off throttle body and open throttle, if its black or dirty looking thats carbon build up if the throttle bodys coated on the inside chances are its got the sensors too, go to valvoline express lube and get a 3 part fuel system cleaner(not from auto parts store)
