2000 Cougar
My fiance has a 2000 Cougar V6 and the check engine light has come on, I took it into a shop and they said that the cat was going bad. My question is how hard is it to change out the cat on these cars? I have never messed with a Cougar before. Thanks in advance.

the cat on these cars is actually welded to a y split in the front connecting the front and rear bank headers and then about a 2 foot pipe on the rear of the cat which connects to the cat back. However, the cat should have an 8 year/80,000 mile warranty, so the dealership should replace it for free of charge.
