v6 = 190 hp about 3000 pounds you should take him with a good launch and good shifting but could be a driver's race.

v8 (gt trim) = 260 hp and only a little heavier. with intake, exhaust, udp, and maybe a small shot of nitrous with the fuel to back it up (might just need to run a 25 shot with a hot wired fuel pump, not too sure about sl's) you should be about even

v8 (mach 1 trim) = 300 hp best mod for this would be a swap to a vr-4 engine (and of course intercoolers and turbos). turn the boost up a little with a mbc if you want to make sure to beat him.

supercharged v8 (cobra trim) = 390 hp. sell your sl, buy a vr-4, turn the boost up to 14.5 psi with a mbc, gut your cats, get a k&n or something similar, and get a udp. that should make you about even.

this is all assuming equal driver ability.

Hehe... I use to always wonder this... And I finally raced all of em so here you go. The V6's are a walk in the park... new or old. They don't even pose competition... especially if they're an auto. The newest Mustang GT's beat me only if they're a manual and non convertible. I can win against the convertibles (even if it's a manual) and the autos. The gen before the newest I can beat by about a car length. Hope it helped =) Now good luck getting one to race you. They all seem to be scared....

damn, in an sl? that is almost a 40hp advantage that they have and it is similar weight to you? are you stock? that is pretty impressive if you are stock, i would say they must have been bad drivers. also, good point about the v6's. i think i made them seem faster that i should have. an sl does have a 32 hp advantage there.

Yeah in a stock SL... It doesn't make sense to me either... I've had a lot of weird races though... I raced a guy in an s2000 twice and beat him both times.. That makes no sense to me as he should have handed me me ass on a platter. So he must have been a really bad driver. I've had my SL for about 2 years and I practice my launches and what not... But as for the mustang convertibles, they're too heavy...

your stock 1/4 mile time is about 15.2 a stock mustang gt runs 14.0
also a s2000 runs 14.0, you have came across some horrible horrible drivers or else they werent really racing you. convertible or not a gt is faster than a sl, and you would need to do lots of upgrades in order to keep up with one, i'm talking thousands.

Yeah I know the new GT's are fast, I never said I could take one though. I raced a 97 and won against that. The convertibles are way way slower than the normal ones though. So it is possible. My fastest run was 14.9 at the track. It's not as amazing as your guys' VR4's, but it works for me for now =)

Yeah as do i, but we do have 3000GT's. There is no reason to frown on that. I am proud that i have one. It still will beat 95% of the other cars out there. Yeah i have been launching around 3000 pretty well but i was letting my clutch out to slow... i need to drop it and floor the car at the same time. I guess it can only make me a better driver.

Woo! Another SL owner =D Seems like everyone has a VR4 these days *frowns* But yeah it's awesome to have a 3000 period. Especially up here in Canada where no one has one =D And we do hold our own really well so it's all good. But yeah, gotta be careful with the clutch when launching, cuz you can wear out your clutch really fast... I sort of ease mine forward before dropping it completely, I get less spin that way.

convertibles are slower but only buy .2 sec so thats a diff between 1.0 and 14.2
my buddy has a hard top and raced a convertible and they were almost neck and neck. i'm not calling you a liar or anything, just saying for the sl owners that don't know don't EXPECT to beat a stang gt.

I read some 1/4 times on the newer convertibles... They were 14.7 *shrugz* I don't know. I guess I'll just add it to my races that don't make sense then...

Against a V-6=win
Against a gt=lose
Against a cobra=run....away...fast (I know its over kill, but hey, he didn't exclude the cobra so...)

Re: 3000GT SL vs 2003 Mustang V6 and V8

I guess it was sort of mentioned, but not completely, as far as the v8 gt's, the year makes a big difference. As you all said, the new ones do run low 14s, but my friend has a 98 and he runs high 14s if he's lucky, and usually just runs low 15s and it's not a convertible.

And to agree, with broddie and ikonone, a modded supercharged cobra was the first car to put me in my place with my vr4. Had some exhaust work done, and I am assuming more mods that I didn't see, possibly not. But my friend and I were following each other home one night around 2am. This cobra comes up from behind us and just whizzes right by us, my friend's F150 didn't stand a chance, so I figured it was my duty to follow this guy. So I take off after him, I catch him doing about 100-110, but he was slowing down for the only red light on this road for miles. It turns green and he starts going, but slowly, so when I finally catch him, we are both cruising in about 3rd gear doing about 45 or 50. He had a passenger, I didn't. We both drop into 2nd gear, and floor it. I was about a half car behind when we get to 3rd gear and he was pulling away, but when he shifted he had some crazy backpressure or something because he had little flames fly out his H-pipe. After that, he just kept pulling away from me and I was left 2 cars behind, before I quit and returned to get laughed at by my friend in the Ford POS truck a mile back.
