new or used

i dont know what i should get i am 16 and i was wondering if i should get a new or a used civic. I was thinking i could get a car already hooked up for about 15,000 or i can buy a new civic for 18,000 and i wont have money to hook it up. what do you think.

Just my personal opinion...find a used one (not hooked up) for less than $15000 and hook it up with your own style. I am assuming you are looking at getting a newer civic based on the prices that you are showing. I bought my wife a 99 civic with 30,000 miles on it for $9950.

Buying a car that someone has already hooked up is somewhat dangerous...you never know how hard they have beat it up... even if it is one of your friends or someone who says 'it has never seen the rain' or what ever. When you add performance parts to a car, you are almost compelled to beat it up...maybe just a little bit, but it will get beaten up. Grandmas and Grandpas don't normal trash a car...buy from them. Dealers are sometimes shady, too. Make sure that you take a mechanic with you to check it out!

Good luck.

buy used. Insurance rates are lower on a used car which is especially helpful for a 16 year old.

Also, for way less than 18,000 you can find a 99-00 Civic Si which has 160hp and an all around better package compared to a brand new Civic EX with only 127hp.

I would look for a used NON hooked up car.
1) because you feel better when you do stuff yourself.

2) My civic was my first car. And I really messed around in it. I did alot of "exploring" of the engine bay and wiring. If I saw a used civic with clear corners, or white gauges I would steer away from it. Cuz you never know how the former owner coulda messed with it.

If you see one that is completely stock, the former owner coulda been some old lady who just used it to drive to the store for milk...

But, I will say that with a used car, you never know!!!
