try a thinner oil ... When its cold and u go to start it.. It takes a while for the Oil to warm up which would prlly explain the running rough thing until it warms up... Try somethin a little bit thinner for oil

check your fuel pump relay. do you hear the pump power up when key is turned to run? should buzz for a couple of seconds. it sounds like the fuel pressure is bleeding off. if you put a gage on it you'll know for sure. pressure will bleed if you have a bad regulator, bad pump check valves. i don't think oil is your problem

Some 1987-88 S/T pickups may experience a condition where the fuel in the fuel lines drains back into the fuel tank after the vehicle is turned off and not restarted for a period of time, usually overnight or longer. This condition may be caused by a leaking check valve in the in-tank fuel pump. Effective Julian date 1218 (May 1, 1988) a change was made to correct this condition.

When replacement of the fuel pump is necessary, the manufacturing date of the new fuel pump should be checked before installation. The Julian date of the new fuel pump can be found stamped on the side of the fuel pump housing. Only install fuel pumps with a Julian date of 1218 or greater.

Example 1218-1 = May 1 1988 on 1st shift.

I would also check the Coolant Temp Sensor to make sure it's functioning properly.

Welp Good Luck Adios..

I replaced the coolant sensor, replaced the fuel pump, still have the same problem. I can see fuel being sprayed in the TBI when someone tries to start the truck but it will not start. As soon as I spray starter fluid in it the truck will start, run rough until warm then run great. I have checked the codes and it does not have any codes set. Had the ICM checked this weekend and it checks out good. truck has 160000 miles.
Still looking for a solution.
