OBD Code Question

The check engine light came on in my 96 GT 4.6 SOHC the other night, so I went to Auto Zone and had them check the code. Got a P1443 Evaporative Emission Control System Control Valve...Unfortunately, neither they nor my local Ford Dealer can tell me what the hell this particular valve is. Chilton's shows it as the Idle Air Control Valve - speed fault under this code. Everything else I have found so far indicates a purge problem in the evaporative emissions canister. Any guru's here know which way to go here??? Any and all help would be appreciated.

Well the Evap system is designed to take the vapors from the gas tank and store them in the evap canister with contains activated carbon. When you are cruising the computer activates the valve so the vapor cycles back into the intake system and burns in the engine instead of getting into the atmosphere. The valve should be on the canister itself or between the canister and the intake system. WTF though the Ford Dealer can't help you. It's not like it's their job to know what they're doing or anything........retards.

Yeh probably, but ya never know. Half the shit we cant figure out at work is because our equipment and computers suck ass. Not to mention the old ass building. I'll see if I cant ask around a bit about that.

Really? I fiqured the dealers had the best equipment at least for dealer make specific cars. Do you like working at the dealership at all. I'm enrolled to go to Wyotech and considering a nearby Audi dealership after Wyotech and the Audi school.
It's best to hear from people in the business anyways. thanks

Some of the equipment is real nice and modern, but some is still pretty old school.

If thats what you wanna do than go for it, and best of luck. Personally(although its a good environment with good people) I would have wanted to start out at a private shop versus a dealer. The reason being that time is money at a dealership, a lot more so than a private shop, especially with warranty jobs(which I guess you only get at the dealership anyways). And when your flat-rate, sometimes you can really get fucked on your paychecks with warranty work unless you REALLY know what your doing and know a lot of short cuts. It's usually easier to get a job at a dealership, however, cause of the # of mechanics needed to get all the work done. So anyways not to discourage you cause its not all bad, just ask around for opinions. Ask your teachers at wyotech for opinions on dealer vs. private for starting jobs, they should really know their shit about that. Good luck though!

I'm at UTI now and I have considered Wyotech. UTI is a waste of time and money. Too much basic book work and not enough in-depth hands on time. You get lucky every now and then and have a good day and learn something, but that just depends on the teacher. Most of then are broke down from hard labor, drive chevys (the cause of the hard labor), and trash talk fords. But maybe having this peice of paper when I leave here will help me to get a better job. I'm taking Ford Fact before I'm done, It's like a pre-ford training school, get the ford schooling out of the way now so the dealer doesnt have to send you. Eventually I will open up my own shop, and hand it over to my kids one day. Wow...kinda got off topic here just a little bit...o well, I've already typed it now. LOL
