D16a1

i was told that the D16A1 engine in my 87 RS integra, was what the based they VTEC off of because it has Dual cams, is this true?

Dunno. I think the D16A1 was another version of the ZC motor, but it could have easily been the predecessor of the B-series non-VTEC as much as the B-series VTEC. No way to really know though without asking Honda I guess.

who cares, they're all crap lol j/k i got a D series in my 04 civic.. it has a massive 115 horsies.. it also does 0-60 in a decade.. good thing it's my beater keep on swappin boys

I had the same car with that motor, it was a fun little car, not to fast but still fun, it loved bein reved hard, i would take it to 5-5.5K every shift and it ran great for the four years i had it and it still runs great. as for your question im not really sure, but your right about it being a 1.6 DOHC you just really gotta ask honda themselves, dont go to a honda dealer, they wont know shit.

well thanks; yes i still take mine up to 5 or 6 and i got 239,000miles heh, i've had to replace the fuel pump relay and the turn signal and wiper switch unit, those are a b*tch to find, but other than that this damn thing won't die
