My Shelby mustang drawing

Here is a picture of my first pencil drawing. A 1968 Mustang Shelby. Let me know what you think.

I am 37 years old and this is my first drawing since I was a teenager. I surprised myself when I did that and plan to draw more cars. The drawing is much bigger than it appears. I took the picture with a cheap digital camera because I couldn't geat a good picture with my scanner. Is there a way to scan a pencil drawing without having all the imperfections multiplied by 10?

Re: My Shelby mustang drawing

Just scan it with no less than 300dpi. Take the file (2.5Kx1K dimensions) and bring it into Adobe Photoshop or Adobe ImageReady, and use "Image Size" to make the dimensions earthly. The reason for using Adobe is because when you downsize the pictures, the drawing doesn't pixelate. Most online and cheapo photo programs use "the same sized pixels" for the smaller version as with the huge one. Then post the drawing. From what I can see, your drawing looks splendid.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you stay around so we can see more of your artwork.

First I want to say, that is an awesome drawing. You did great by adding a darker background to show the white Stang better.

I have some knowledge of scanners vs. digicams. I personally like digi cams better. I have the Olympus C4000 Zoom (4 meg pix) w/ full adjustments on the shudder speed and f-stop. I took my cobra pict w/ that camera (no flash) I used two 500 watt halogen lamps and a tripod and messed around w/ the f-stop and shudder speed. I also used jack-stands to set my drawing board up in my garage and took the pict. at night. You may try early morning to help counter act the tungsten effect from the lamps, (I don't have lens filters) and won't spend the money on them...hee hee

Here are two books you can check out from the Library

Step-by-Step Digital Photography by jack and Sue Drafahl
&
The Quick & Easy Guide to Photographing Your Artwork
by Roger Saddington

Keep in mind you don't have to go as far as I did for taking pics of art, but I am practicing photographer so I can produce prints.

The thing about scanners is you have to scan multiple times and then mess around with assembling them in PhotoShop or some other program.
Here is a link that shows how
http://www.sibleyfineart.com/index.h...join-scans.htm

PS: I can only imagine what a art pict. would look like w/ a 5 meg or 6+ mega pix camera.

Re: My Shelby mustang drawing

since it is a pencil drawing, try scanning it in grayscale instead of black&white or color. That might work.

Thank you for your help and your compliments. The drawing was made on a 9x12 sheet and it covers about 70% of the paper. I will try to make a better picture with the tips you gave me. I started 2 other car drawings and will post them here when they are done. You can also see an oil paint I made a while ago and never finished and another pencil drawing of a car that doesn't look as good as the Shelby here:

Re: My Shelby mustang drawing

This drawing is great. I can see how it must look in real life. Keep drawing. I started painting again after not having painted for years & the more I painted, the better they got. I couldn't draw anymore cuz of severe carparl tunnel, but I just had surgery on both hands last yr and can draw again. I'm really enjoying it. Just keep drawing! I just really found out that it's a gift. Don't let it go unused.
