94 rodeo starting problems

starting problems w/'94 rodeo. doesn't want to start - it's like hitting a dead spot on starter - nothing at all. changed the starter (twice) & the battery. still does it. also NOT the sensor. it will always start at some point, but might have to wait an hour or more, or sometimes only minutes. has an alarm system & remote controls. maybe this is the problem?? taken it in numerous times but nothing can be found because the car will start after being shaken up on tow truck. any suggestions??????

First things that came to my mind were starter relay or ignition switch.

Re: 94 rodeo starting problems

Check your body grounds (where the battery grounds to the frame, remove and clean them up), just a guess.

having same problem with my 95

Did you find out what the problem was with starting? I am having the exact same problem with my 95 Rodeo and have no clue what is wrong with it. I would appreciate any info you can give me on the problem and what you did to resolve it. Thanks

Having the same problem on my pickup.

I've replaced:
Post/Neg Battery cable
Relay wire
Battery
Starter

The last thing I'm going to try is to move the ground. This has been a frustration for a few weeks now. I'll post after I try that.

Re: 94 rodeo starting problems

I or my wife has the same problem on our 1995.5 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2l.

You turn the key, the lights come on everything except the starter does not engage. If you keep turning the key off and on eventually the starter will turn over and the Rodeo will start right up. Don't beleive its the starter no dragging starter, no clicking, the starter just dosen't do anything. Battery is well charged and just recently replaced battery connectors.

I have trouble shot the symptoms and I see it as no power is getting to the starter. I tried the fuses just inside the drivers door, replaced the ingnition fuse the car started up right away, so we replaced the fuse, The problem still exists and I'm stumped because it seems like a loose wire somewhere but those can be a bear to find.

Anyone listed above figure out their problems? Are you still having them? Does anyone else have an answer?

I had the exact same symptoms on a volkswagen many years ago. It turned out to be an ignition switch. A defective switch will intermittently fail to 'close' the circuit that delivers juice from the battery to the starter. On the Rodeo, you have to remove the steering wheel to access the ignition switch.
