Performance Question

Hey, Im looking to do some upgrades to my 89 IROC... it has a 350TPI .. im going to hack off the cat. get rid of the ac... so right there.. maybe a 40 hp gain? then i was looking on E-bay for performance chips. i found this one it says up to 30 hp... what do you think i could get out of my car with it?

can anyone suggest a good stage 2 or 3 chip? After that what do you think i should put in.. i have kind of a limited budjet. and.. with the chip, exuast and ac taken off... what power gains do you think im looking at?

from the way it sounds it sounds like its a scam. never buy a chip of ebay. other things can be ok not chips. plus what brand is it they dont give you one plus real chips are expensive they are probably 10x that one there. thats just my $.02 i dont know what your gains would be ether.

hey thanks.. i thought something was up. i was looking around and the other chips are like 150 or so... but can you suggest any kind of performance parts ?

for hacking off the cat, and loosing the AC i think you might get more like 20hp, not 40. a set of vortech heads and SDPC vortec/tpi base plate will net you 45hp i dont reccomend hacking off the cat. a high flow aftermarket unit is a better choice. headers, are a pain in the butt, but worth the price of admission. look at suspensino upgrades, swaybars, trailing arms, control arms, polyurithane bushings, springs, shocks, torque arm, torsen rear with gears, a transkit from B&M with a corvette 1st to 2nd servo, youd be amazed. the suspension mods are worth half a second in the quarter mile. aside from that, chips so long as its from someone you can do research on, you should be ok. someone that has a website, or a catalog or brosure they can send you. dont buy from someone you know nothing about. also look into holley stelthram intake, lingenfelter designed accel intake, 58mm throttle bodies, airfoils, cams. oh yeah, cams man, aint no better hp per dollar investment for a small block chevy like cams i reccomend comp cams xtream energy line.

the TB bypass is not something you should pay for. the coolant system runs cooland through the throttle body to help warm up the engine on cold starts, and as anyone can see warm air is bad for performance. they kit basically is a way to allow the coolant to bypass the TB and not warm the air going into the engine. this is definitely a mod you can do yourself without spending a dime if you have a little common sense...

with the ac, do you just remove the compressor and replace it with one of those ac delete pulley's or is there more?

depends, most engiens i have seen just go to napa and buy a belt for your same model car, without AC, and it will work just fine.

Take off the belt for the AC and unhook the connection results in gaining 15hp
