90 caprice 5.7

what is the HP rating for this engine .Is it a vortec engine? I believe it is a 9c1 .I bought it from a former crime commison member who bought it new in NJ from Warnock fleet 5.7L TBI .How do i find out if it is 9C1.It has gauge package .oil cooler .power stearing cooler.certified speedometer.

Hey, how's it going? Your motor is not a Vortec, it is however definately a 9C1. You can tell very easily by the certified speedo and the oil cooler, does it have a tranny cooler? If you look in you trunk on the underneath of the trunk lid there is a white sticker that has a long list of numbers and letters, this is the service parts identification sticker. You can cross reference these codes to find out what options your car came with, you'll have to look around for a website where you can look these up. I can tell you that if your sticker has 9C1 in it that means police vehicle. But we already know your car has that code. Another "S.P.I.D." code is GU4, which means 3.08 rear gear. Not all 9C1's came with a 3.08 though, some had 2.73's or 3.42's Here is a link so you can see specs for the 1989 9C1 which are nearly exact to your 90's. http://www.9c1.com/brochures/1989/89_9c1.pdf
