Question '97 Escort Problem

Hi, my car started to have a problem recently, its whenever i start it, it starts ok but it accelerates on its own almost immediatly after i turn it on, can you guys help me to know whats the problem?

Have someone check for codes set in computer.

Possibly bad idle air control motor.

Bypass valve

If yoru car starts to race as soon as you start it, there is a very good chance your problem is with the air bypass valve. I am not sure how the '97 is set up, but on the '94 it is a valve on the end of the intake manifold sitting right on top the throttle body. Replace the valve and its gasket.
