Re: monte carlo vs. camaro
Better in what way? Montys are a full frame car making it, I believe, a better choice for a race car. outside of that, I couldn't write a book on either one.

Re: monte carlo vs. camaro
yes i am trying to decide between the two cars. the camaro is a fuel injection and the monte carlo is carb. they both have 305 engines in them. the monte carlo ss has a 700R4 transmission and the camaro LS has a turbo 400. with this added info which is a better choice?

Re: monte carlo vs. camaro
turbo 400 was a stronger tranny, but the monte is the better overall car. from a driver's perspective, they do handle better, and I have yet to see a monte that could not trounce a camaro, with the same engine.
Style points counting for anything, although neither would be defined as hot, the monte is also a better looking car. That of course is subject to opinion. Carbed cars can be a bit of a bummer to work on, but then again, they are easy to dial in the fuel delivery for what you want. Injected is easier starting most times, and very few headaches, although 89-90-91 chevy products have been known to be dogs in the electrical department. Ultimately, its up to you, good luck with whatever you choose to drive. |

I didn't know 700's were out that early. My son had an 85 GP with a TH200. If you plan on horsing much I'd go with the 400. See if you can't talk the guy out of the 400 & put it in the Monty.

Re: monte carlo vs. camaro
The 700 is probably better for highway milage. The only disadvantage I can see with the 400 is it's heavy. That may not be bad with the weight being low & almost center-mass.

Re: monte carlo vs. camaro
Personally, i'd stick with the Monte. It's got a G-body, which means it's one straight frame, no bolt-ons. The G-body era consisted of late 70's to late 80's model GM cars. These cars were of course the Monte's, the Grand Prix's (only till mid 80's), and the buick regals. All excellent cars. Personally, i also prefer the Monte cause it looks better. and with the carb vs. the FI, the carbs have less electronic bs to worry about. Stick with the Monte, dude.
