03 Camry: Bucking Problem and Security Light Flashing

Hi everyone,

I have a 2003 Camry XLE. Recently I brought the car in to a Toyota dealer because of the 'bucking' problem when accelerating. They tried to do the ECU upgrade, but managed to fry it, so they replaced the whole ECU. This required me getting all new keys and cutting off one of the fingers of the mechanics so he would remember not to do that again.

So, the bucking problem is still occuring, but not as bad as before, and it may be the ECU 'learning', since it is completely new. I'll give that a few days before I take it back and park it on the service manager's desk, but I noticed that the security light on my dash is always flashing now. This is annoying, and it's causing the voices in my head to get louder. It's hard to drive in D.C. traffic with a flashing light in the corner of your eye, and the conversations in my head but that's not a warranty issue. This is obviously an ECU thing too, and I'm willing to bet the dealer forgot to do something.

I have no trouble bringing it back to them, but what I want to know is, is this something I could do? And by that I mean easy, and not involving any tools or assembly, that's what warranties are for. On my old bmw, there were tricks, like turning the key on (not starting) and stepping on the gas 5 times quickly, or tapping the computer stalk twice, or sacrificing a small goat, normal things like that.

Anything similar on this car? Not the goats though, that's messy and kind of disgusting so I'm not doing that again.

And, has anyone else had the bucking and actually had it resolved? If so, what was done?

I think I would get a second opinion, like; try a new Toyota dealer for service.
