97 metro stuck in park

i have an automatic and the shifter is stuck in park when i push the little button on the shifter it will not release out of park so i had to take the little covering off on the drivers side console and pull the little lever up and then it will come out of park can this be adjusted? or is the backup transmission module have a fuse that might be blown? is it ok to drive?

The solenoid might be shot. I would just remove it. It's just a safety so people don't put their car in gear before the brake is pressed.
