Unhappy Confused newbie

My 95 Aurora 4.0 has a problem and I can't figure it out. There are no engine lights comming on, or any thing.I think it may be a throttle problem. but I can't tell It has totally lost power and acceleration.I can only give it light gas to move but if I push the peddal it boggs way down and trys to stall. That used to be the only problem. but I let it sit over the winter cause I diden't have the time or money. now It's rough to start.and not holdind a good idle if I tap the gas in park it revs way up and then comes down real slow.I'm thinking throttle position sensor for that. So far I've changed fuel filter plugs and plug wires And cleaned out the throttle body housing and plate wich was filthy. That only helped a little bit. more for comfort than fixing the problem. If any one has any idea of what to do it would be greatly helpfull. I'm not a mechanic but I'm very interested in the car, and want to use it for a learning tool. since it's paid off

Re: Confused newbie

If you want to learn on the car and don't need it to run, then start by getting the FSM and begin tinkering. If you want it running correctly now you need to take it in for a scan. Could be a simple adjustment of the MAF or TPS, but let the computer eliminate the quesswork.

Re: Confused newbie

this may sound funny to some of you, but, a buddy of mine had the same problem in his 98 dodge truck. I know its not the same vehicle were talking about, but it was the same symptoms. Believe it or not, it was his catalytic converter. His truck was hard to start and would not accelerate for shit. It took 1 hour to drive 30 miles. Everytime he would try to step on the gas it tried to stall on him or it would bogg down. Im not saying that this will fix your problem, its just something to look at!

Re: Confused newbie

the catalytic convirter is what I'm thinkin I tried to get it off today but it's froze on. I gonna give it another shot tomorrow. I found vol.2 of the repair manual for a 99 but I can't find a manual for a 95 any where or even a listing the 99 is real close but I don't trust it. Any advice???
