Re: Drawing Realistic Headlights! HELP!!

aseanz wrote one in one of his threads a while back but ill give you about what he said...
1. trace the oulines of all the differen shades of the colors
2. fill in the dark colors, then lighter, then lighter, untill you get to white...
3. take a tort or stump and blend the line...basically trace your lines...
4 add highlights to look like glass

i think that was about it but im sure alfred can help you more

Re: Drawing Realistic Headlights! HELP!!

headlights are easily one of the hardest parts of a car, theyre really hard to do. I just look for shapes in the light, triangles, circles, rectangles, etc, and draw the darker ones real dark, and the lighter ones, lighter, and leave a lot white.

On second thought, they might not work if your using color...it works if your using black and white pe, i can vouch for that...ya...

Re: Drawing Realistic Headlights! HELP!!

headlights must be drawn "implied." basically, go out to your car and look at all of the lines, grids, chrome tones, reflections, and really understand that.

then imply, do a lost-and-found sort of suggestion of these forms washed out and somewhat visible in the shine of the lights.

get dealer literature, as it is typically artifically glossy, crisp, slick and "perfect," and look at how headlights look turned on. mimic this look. with time you will "get it." hint: less is more.

Darn it I wish I had my tut done.

I am working on my graphite s15 now but unfortunately it won't be ready for about 2weeks.

This is how I would do it:

First draw all the detail in the head light, all the little reflections and what not. Then give a light shade on the entire head light (except parts that need to be white). Gradually work from light to dark in layers. Your final step can involve dabbing areas w/ a gum eraser for the highest highligts and or using this to get your very bright highlights cleaned up. Don't forget the stump and tortillion for blending if something becomes too blury then create hard edges again w/ the 2b mech. pencil .5mm lead.

I luv this eraser for drawing and cleaning up highlights
http://www.cleansweepsupply.com/page...roup31851.html

You can create sharp edges by cutting the eraser flat (like a flat top )
Then use the edge for razor sharp highlighting. You may try gouache paint and a 5/0 paint brush. The Tuff Stuff eraser can be bought at many office and art supply stores.

The major key to headlights is to have very dark near blk tones and very light perhaps even white areas. I like to use by 2b mechanical pencil for drawing headlights.

Sorry I don't have that tut done. I know it has been forever but I am getting to it.
