tutorial-titanium muffler tips

I have noticed that a lot of you have been trying to find a way to make realistic titanium tips, so I thought i`d share my way with you.
(sorry, not very good pics but you should get the idea)

Materials:
1 chrome telescopic aerial (from a radio)
1 mini blowtorch
1 pair of pliers
some cold water
.................................................. .................................................. .
first cut up the aerial into its sections.
use the size section most suitable for your exhaust size( I have used the thickest size for photos.)

then light up your blowtorch and while holding the tube with pliers(gently do not squash)heat the tip of the tube by placing the flame directly onto the metal.

once the metal is red hot, dip it in the cold water to cool.
you will notice the tip is brown in colour,but look further down and you will see the heat staining.now trim off the brown part and cut your exhaust tip to size with the colouring right on the end.

Not thought of that, definately worth a try!

I forgot something.before you heat the tubing be sure to wipe it with a solvent such as alcohol and dont touch it again with your hands until you have heated it.if you dont do this you will get fingerprints burnt into the metal and/or an uneven finish.

by the way it is not alum tube it is chromed brass, I dont think alum will give the same effect.

good tutorial. you are tight, aluminum tubing will NOT give the same effect.. believe me I tried

Nice tutorial but just as SLK320 said, not all pipes work. If you want the best results try to find some real titanium piping.

i actually found some titan tubing...way too expensive!
i found the chrome aerial works second best.
you can find them quite cheap at radio spares shops.
i`m working on some other tutorials too.

Hi to all:

I've been trying similar efects.

I use mainly plastic for my models, so I resort to painting technics to achive this!

What I do is: -paint the exaust in the metalic collor of my choice
- use citadel miniature inks (blue and flesh) with my airbrush

One must look at pictures of the real thing and see how the color changes!

This is an example!

guys I think (and from the looks of the pic), he's talking about an 'antenna' from a radio. That, to me anyway, seams like a much cheaper and more readily available medium to use as opposed to titanium tubes.
